Procedure for Reseting IBM xSeries 445 RSA II Card:
- Connect loopback cable from RSAII to ETH1 on server. (RSA port is directly to the left of ETH1)
- Bring up ETH1:
eth1 inet addr:192.168.70.120 Bcast:192.168.70.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
DO NOT SET A GATEWAY - telnet 192.168.70.125
- username: USERID password: PASSW0RD (0 = zero, not letter)
- enter “resetsp” at command prompt to reset controller
- controller will disconnect session and reset
Known problem with the x445 and the (42B)1.15 BIOS. Supposed to be fixed in the (45A) 1.17 BIOS update. Server will lockup every 76 days without updated BIOS, or controller reset.

Well, I had a nice 4 days off. Moved all the stuff out of my apartment, and enjoyed the the last few days in a totally empty 2 bedroom, 2 bath, apartment. Just a laptop, a sleeping bag on a Thai mattress, and certain state of Zen.
Now it’s time to get back to work. Since we are in the middle of a change freeze that lasts until the end of the year, it was requested the we create charts, graphs , and flowcharts for the systems we manage. Below is the work flowchart I came up with for the next few weeks.

Analog Vs. Digital

Analog:
Something that bears an analogy to something else: Surimi is marketed as an analogue of crabmeat.
Analog is often refered to as the representation of reality, or the real.
Digital:
Computers. Involving or using numerical digits expressed in a scale of notation to represent discretely all variables occurring in a problem. Something manipulated with a finger or the fingertips.
Digital is nothing more than the mathematical manipulation or representation of the analog reality.
